Teresa Turikan is a Paris based contemporary abstract artist who works predominantly with acrylic and crayons on on cotton canvas paper.
Born in Taiwan in 1989, she grew up in Australia and graduated from QUT's Creative Industries degree in 2012. During the last semester of her studies she relocated to Paris in France.
Her artworks are the crystallization of experiences from various cultures and creative disciplines. She had the great fortune of studying and learning from dance and fashion disciplines, key forces that shaped her work to become fluid with movement and textures, with a strong emphasis on color. Each creation is a testament to a specific emotion or intangible subject in time.
The given name TURIKAN means 'various colors' in Pazeh - an indigenous tribe of Taiwan and the ethnicity of her grandmother. Although the Pazeh language is greatly endangered, fortunately there is a revival movement thanks to cultural preservation efforts made.
Her first series DECONSTRUCTED CHARACTERS is created from deconstructed traditional Chinese characters that the artist learned while growing up in Taiwan. The characters and calligraphy strokes are deconstructed completely, and transformed as the skeleton of each painting.

Née à Taiwan en 1989, elle a vécu et étudié les Arts Créatifs en Australie avant de venir en France. Son oeuvre est la cristallisation de ses expériences dans différentes cultures et disciplines créatives.
Ses réalisations abstraites contemporaines déploient des lignes et des couleurs vives. Chacune exprime une émotion propre ou un thème intemporel.
Le nom TURIKAN signifie 'couleurs multiples' en Pazeh, langue d'une tribu indigène de Taiwan à laquelle appartient sa grand-mère. Bien qu'aujourd'hui en danger d'extinction, le Pazeh semble renaître grâce à de nombreux efforts de préservation.
La première série DECONSTRUCTED CHARACTERS est inspirée des caractères traditionnelles que l'artiste a appris lors de sa jeunesse à Taiwan. Les caractères ainsi que la calligraphie sont intégralement décomposés et forment le squelette de chaque peinture.
